Is Coconut Oil Bad for Your Skin?

Palm tree background with text overlay why we go nuts for coconuts

Coconut oil comes surrounded by misinformation and it’s not hard to see why...  Many women and men will tell you that it’s a staple in their skincare regimen, even going as far to call it their holy grail, while others have had not so great experiences to report.  With so many mixed messages out there on the world wide web, we decided to shed some light on this dilemma that plagues so many of us.

Firstly, the fact will always remain that everything will not always work for everyone.  It’s important to know this and to always test products out to see if they will work for you specifically as opposed to expecting the results you see of others.  Now that that has been addressed, it’s time to get to the bottom of who coconut oil IS for.

Let’s take a second to acknowledge the fact that coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and antifungal which are both great attributes for those with problematic skin.  However, it’s important to dig a little deeper especially when you find coconut oil listed as an ingredient among others in a product.  Coconut oil should always be used in its purest form especially if you are going to put it on our face.  Cold pressed, unrefined coconut oil is the way to go.

Next, take into consideration your skin type as coconut oil is naturally comedogenic due to its ability to lock in moisture.  Those with oily, acne prone skin should proceed with caution.  This is not to say that coconut oil won’t be good for you, but that it’s a matter of trying it and finding out for yourself as different skin can react differently.

Fortunately, here at Urban Skin Rx, we love coconut oil and so do our many clients who have used our products with amazing results.  We make sure to use extreme care when formulating our products and only use the best forms of coconut oil.  Our Even Tone Cleansing Bar, Anti-Aging Cleansing Bar, and Clear Skin Cleansing Bar, all contain coconut oil and are among the most beloved products in our line.

Possibly the most popular, due to its recent media attention, is the amazingly effective Even Tone Cleansing Bar.  This bar offers properties that help fight inflammation and promotes even skin pigmentation. With regular use, the skins tone begins to appear more even, with a visibly brightened complexion.

The Anti-aging bar, is perfection for if you struggle with dry skin and/or want to prevent the signs of aging, helps to relieve hyper keratinized skin, eczema, and more. It has properties that help hydrate as well as exfoliate in addition to helping with acne and clogged pores.

So, to summarize, coconut oil is a great natural skin care product when used in its purest form.  If you are unsure as to whether coconut oil will be suitable for your skin type, the only way to know is to give it a try.  We promise, it’s a small risk that can lead to a great reward!

If you need assistance with choosing which cleansing bar is perfect for you, don’t hesitate to contact us!  We love hearing from you!
