The Benefits of Salicylic Acid Spray

Salicylic acid spray

While it’s great that people are getting more invested in what they use on their skin, and that we’re learning more about what nourishes us and addresses certain issues, it’s a bit like dating apps!

There are so many options out there, all with their strengths and weaknesses, and it can be difficult to figure out which one is your perfect match.

Among the many options available are skincare sprays — a somewhat-less-talked-about way to deliver super helpful ingredients to your skin, like Salicylic Acid. Let’s talk about Salicylic Acid Spray — what it is, why it’s useful, and how to work it into your routine!

No more swiping. It’s time to settle down with the skincare product of your dreams.

What Is the Benefit of Spray Skincare Products?

Spray products aren’t necessarily the first thing you add to your skincare regimen. It’s not one of the building blocks, but there are a lot of benefits to using a spray to get your skin the nutrients it needs. They’re not necessarily a replacement for other steps in your skincare routine, but spray products are an amazing addition to your lineup!

Here are some of the reasons why spray products are so worthy of a swipe right.

They’re Easy To Use

Massaging products into your skin isn’t particularly difficult, but if you’re in a hurry — or if your skin just had wide-ranging needs and you’ve ended up with a lengthy routine in the mornings or evenings — it can feel like a lot to have to apply one more product.

The great thing about spray products is that you can simply mist them onto your face, let the product absorb, and you’re good to go! No applicators or fussy rubbing is needed.

They Can Be Reapplied

Because spray products are so easy to apply, they’re easy to re-apply, too. Much like the difference between a sunscreen spray and SPF moisturizer, you have to spend precious time and energy rubbing in to avoid that less-than-sexy white cast, spray skincare products are the ideal no-fuss, no-muss option.

This means that if you’re using a Salicylic Acid spray to help manage breakouts and support balance for oily skin — and your skin is seriously oily lately — you can easily and quickly reapply your spray throughout the day.

They’re Perfect for Busy Lifestyles & Travel

The fact that they’re so low maintenance makes them perfect if you lead a busy lifestyle or travel a lot.

We’re all about a well-thought-out, super-effective skincare routine for your face and body. But while we know some people love long, multi-step routines, we also know that other people want to get out the door as quickly as possible… and sometimes, that desire to keep things simple and efficient can make it hard to add anything to your skincare routine.

Enter skincare sprays: the perfect delivery system for the ingredients your skin needs that add zero time to your routine. Simply mist yourself after stepping out of the shower, and you’re good to go!

Not only is this good for our minimalist skincare fans, but it’s also great if you’re a globetrotter who finds yourself on a flight more weekends than not. It can be challenging to find a skincare routine that suits your jet-setting lifestyle — and skincare sprays are one great option that can make your routine that much easier.

They Save Time

What is the uniting theme in all of these reasons? Spray products save you time! Even if you love a full, 10-step skincare routine because you’re all about a little self-care moment, it’s hard to deny the appeal of a product that works and works quickly.

And if the only thing standing between you and clear skin is the fact that you don’t want to add an extra few minutes to your post-shower routine in the morning…well, skincare sprays are ideal for you, too.

What Is Salicylic Acid?

Now that we’ve gone over some of the main reasons why it’s worth adding a skincare spray to your routine, let’s get specific.

Let’s talk about our Clear Skin Clarifying Back and Body Spray, a must-have for anyone who struggles with body breakouts. But one of its main ingredients is worth a longer discussion because it’s an impressive power hitter in the world of breakout-busting products.

Salicylic Acid is part of the Beta Hydroxy Acid family. Beta Hydroxy Acids, or BHAs, are skincare acids similar to Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Both of these helpful ingredients work by providing gentle chemical exfoliation. They break down the bonds between the layers of your skin, enabling old, dead and dull skin cells to be easily sloughed away to reveal newer, brighter growth.

This process is generally great for fighting breakouts and balancing oily skin because it can refresh your complexion. But BHAs are especially potent when addressing breakouts because, unlike AHAs, which are water soluble, BHAs are oil soluble.

We know that sounds boring and “science-y” — but it means that rather than breaking down and activating when they come into contact with the surface of your skin, BHAs don’t start their work until they penetrate your pores and come into contact with your skin’s natural oils.

That means that they give your pores a serious deep clean — just what you need to fight breakouts and help to balance your skin, especially if you have an oily skin type.

Does Salicylic Acid Have Any Side Effects?

Like most skincare acids, the main risk you run with Salicylic Acid is that it can potentially dry your skin. You may experience redness, flaking, dryness or itching if you have sensitive skin. You may also experience side effects if you’re using too many Salicylic Acid products, using a combination of products that don’t work together or using Salicylic Acid products too often (that’s why it’s important to read the directions carefully).

For instance, Retinol and Salicylic Acid can be used at opposite ends of your skincare routine, but you shouldn’t layer them together — the combined effect is too much for most skin types. Similarly, you’ll want to consult a professional or do some serious research before combining BHAs and AHAs directly onto your skin. The exception is products formulated with both types of ingredients because they’re likely to have been formulated in weak enough concentrations to work well together.

If you have sensitive skin or have had issues with BHAs and AHAs in the past, you can mitigate the likelihood of side effects by introducing Salicylic Acid to your skincare routine gradually. Start by applying them once or twice weekly, and build up over time.

It’s also important to mind your moisturizing when using BHAs and AHAs! This will help to balance out any dryness you may experience and keep your moisture barrier strong. Our HydraBalance Brightening Moisture Infusion is a great option for keeping your skin glowing and quenched rather than greasy and parched.

It’s super lightweight while still acting as a moisture magnet, attracting water to your skin with the use of Hyaluronic Acid and a brightening Peptide complex to help brighten up dull skin. Squalane also helps to provide additional hydration and seals in moisture for soft, smooth and healthy-looking skin no matter what other products you’re using!

What Is Salicylic Acid Best For?

Because Salicylic Acid is so effective when it comes to unclogging your pores and balancing out your skin’s oil production, it’s perfect if you struggle with stubborn breakouts.

It can help get deep into your pores to improve the things that cause breakouts in the first place —making them less likely to recur — and help improve the look breakouts when you have them. This is why it’s a common ingredient in spot treatments!

Salicylic Acid products are also great if you have an oily skin type or struggle with oily skin in general. Salicylic Acid can help to dry out that excess sebum, leaving you with smoother, more even-looking skin quickly and effectively.

Additionally, Salicylic Acid is often used as part of a chemical peel. Chemical peels are products or professional treatments that provide a stronger concentration of AHAs and BHAs than normal — so strong that they can cause the top layers of your skin to peel away.

While peeling may not sound appealing, it can be amazing when addressing breakouts and dark spots.

Our Medspa Edition: Complexion Correction Peel Pads use the power of Salicylic Acid alongside Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Retinol to give you all the benefits of a professional chemical peel from the comfort and convenience of your home. These at-home treatment peel pads exfoliate and improve the appearance of your complexion while fighting off less-than-desirable things like fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.

What Should I Know About Salicylic Acid Spray?

Now that we’ve broken down all the benefits of Salicylic Acid and why a skincare spray is a key component missing from your skincare regimen, let’s put it all together and talk about our Clear Skin Clarifying Back & Body Spray.

This spray is made with a quick-drying formula so that you don’t have to worry about dancing around in your birthday suit, waiting for it to be safe to put your clothes on! It can help to clarify your skin and improve the appearance of clogged pores, all while smoothing the look of the rough texture you may be experiencing.

It’s perfect if your breakouts tend to affect areas other than your face — those areas are where this spray truly shines (but not in an oily, unpleasant way).

It can be difficult to fight off breakouts when they happen on your back, buttocks, chest or shoulder area. First of all, because many people don’t have a skincare routine that covers all of these bases, and second of all, because you need a product with strong enough concentrations to work on the less-easily-penetrated, more durable skin of your body. Products that clear away acne on your face just won’t cut it.

Our Back & Body Spray uses ClearTone Advanced Technology®, a blend of five ingredients that work synergistically to reveal a healthier and more even-looking complexion.

A blend hardcore enough to banish your body breakouts while soothing skin with Vitamin E and a blend of calming, nourishing oils so that your skin feels soft after usage, rather than dry and irritated.

In addition to Salicylic Acid, our Clear Skin Clarifying Back & Body Spray brings Willow Bark Extract to the table — an exfoliant that’s often compared to Salicylic Acid due to the amazing effects it can have on rough or breakout-prone skin. It’s also soothing, so if your breakouts lead to redness and inflammation, Willow Bark Extract can help on every level.

Niacinamide helps deliver hydration and visibly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, all while reducing the appearance of large pores, minimizing the look of discoloration and helping to restore your skin’s smoothest, most even texture yet. Plus, this Back & Body Spray also uses Glycolic Acid, a gentle but exfoliating AHA that works hard to remove dull surface cells so that your skin can have the chance it needs to glow.

After showering, just spray any area of your body where you’re struggling with breakouts in a thin layer and let it dry — you won’t have to wait long. You can use this spray 1-2 times daily (if no irritation occurs) to get the best effects.

In Conclusion

When it comes to skincare, finding the perfect product for you and your skin’s individual needs can be challenging. A great product that you may not have considered before is Salicylic Acid Spray —it’s an easy, efficient and effective way to deliver a blast of breakout-busting SA (Salicylic Acid) to your skin without adding any hassle to your daily routine.
