Do you look older than you really are?

before and after blog image
Hyperpigmentation (Dark Spots/Age Spots) is probably the reason why.

Hyperpigmentation creates uneven skin tone, which I believe is far more ageing than lines and wrinkles. Uneven skin tone will make you look older than you actually are. At Urban Skin Rx, our specialty is corrective skin care. So, of course, we have the solution for how to attain and maintain a clear, even skin tone and help you turn back the clock.

Hyperpigmentation, also known as sun spots, age spots, dark spots, brown marks and ‘the mask of pregnancy’, is so common among women that we all have it, or will have it as we age. And while all skin tones suffer from hyperpigmentation, those with darker African, Asian, and Mediterranean African skin tones are particularly prone. Especially if they have a lot of sun exposure.

What Causes Hyperpigmentation?

UV Exposure: UV stimulates the pigment cells (melanocytes) in our epidermis to start making melanin. This is what causes suntans but also hyperpigmentation. Another terrific reason to not to hang out in the sun, at least not without sunscreen.
Hormones: Hormonal hyperpigmentation is generally caused by the pill or pregnancy.
Injury: Know how when you pick at a pimple, you get that red-brownish scar that won’t go away? That’s because it’s not a scar, it’s post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which comes about after trauma or injury to the skin. It can also happen after needles, injections, burns or any kind of inflammation.
