Tips for taking care of your skin in the summertime

Summer Skin Tips
Warmer weather means more fun in the sun, but it also means increased exposure to UV rays, heat and humidity that can lead to dark spots, fine lines, clogged pores and acne breakouts. And don’t think staying inside will help either because air conditioning can steal your skin’s moisture.

What’s a glow girl to do? Follow these tips to make sure your summer skin routine is amped up to fight aggressors so you can be blemish-free and booty-licious, without spoiling your fun!

Cleanse And Exfoliate
The first step to any good skincare routine is to cleanse your skin. Find one that is formulated for your skin type and use in the morning and evening. Exfoliating is a great way to remove dead skin cells and keep your skin looking healthy. Urban Skin Rx® offers four cleansing bars (in jars!) that are multitasking wonders working as cleansers, exfoliators and masks to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and dark spots.

Get Your Vitamin C
The sun provides Vitamin D, but for your skin, you should start with some Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that brightens skin, neutralizes free radical damage and improves the look of hyperpigmentation and aging skin. Our Radiant and Bright Glowing Moisturizer is a creamy, non-pore-clogging moisturizer packed with vitamins (including C), plus other antioxidants and amino acids for an instant, healthy-looking glow. It also has Peptides and Collagen to smooth the look of skin texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines while providing intense hydration all day and night.

Swap Out Your Heavy Moisturizer For Something Light
During the warmer months, you can absolutely skip the heavy moisturizer and switch to something lighter like a hydrating serum. We love our HydraFirm + Brightening Serum which is packed with Hyaluronic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, Peptides, Niacinamide and Lactic Acid to improve the visible signs of aging as well as the appearance of uneven skin tone and rough texture. The non-pore clogging formula is also an ideal hydrator for oily, blemish-prone skin types.

Go Makeup-Free Makeup can clog your pores on any given day… throw in high heat and sweat and your pores really can’t breathe. Going makeup-free is a great option for those days when you will be out and about (and sweating -- or as we like to say, glowing). If you must wear makeup, lay off the heavy formulas and opt for a lightweight, non-comedogenic foundation. You can always wear mascara and lip gloss!!

Don’t Forget The Skin Down There
And back there, and behind there… Your arms, shoulders, back and booty all need extra care especially if you’re going to be showing some skin this season. Urban Skin Rx® offers a collection of body products that target those breakout-prone areas on your body like your back and buttocks and also dark spots on knees, elbows, and the bikini area.

Wear Sunscreen
This one’s a no brainer… if you’re not wearing sunscreen every day, 365 days a year you are exposing your skin to harmful UV rays that can accelerate the sign of aging and cause dark spots, not to mention more serious skin concerns. Choose a formula with an SPF of at least 15, 30 is even better, to protect your skin from sun damage. Don’t forget to apply to those forgetful spots like your ears, hairline, and tops of hands and feet.

Sun Protective Clothing
If you’re going to be outdoors during those high sun times of 10:00 am through 2:00 pm, wear a lightweight, long sleeve coverup and don’t forget to grab a cute hat. You can protect yourself and look hot doing it!

H2O for the Glow
Keeping yourself hydrated is not only good for your health, it’s good for your skin! Be sure to drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration and also take advantage of the season’s bounty -- like watermelon and other fresh fruit to stay hydrated.
