Nai, aka LA Beautyologist, is a Los Angeles based licensed esthetician who specializes in personalized facial skincare, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone & texture, acne (hormonal & cystic) and ingrown hairs. You may know her from her viral #60SecondRule video in which she highlights the importance of cleansing your face with your fingers for at least 60 seconds, and the difference it can make in the overall health and radiance of your skin.
She owns a studio in LA called The Golden Rx Skin Studio where she offers facials and skincare services, as well as body treatments and body waxing for every shade and skin type. Nai considers herself a “beauty scientist” on a mission to spread skincare knowledge to women of color, an often neglected demographic in the skincare industry. Keep reading for her favorite tips and treatments for melanin skin.
What makes you a Melanin Expert?
Nai: My dedication to bridging the gap between people of color, and the skincare industry makes me a melanin expert. Since the first stages of my career in the beauty industry, I realized there was a lack of people that looked like me coming into spas for skincare services. Not only that, but there was a lack of skincare information specifically addressing melanin skin. My whole mission is to make skincare knowledge and treatment accessible. I do this by being a public voice on Twitter, Instagram and YoutTube, as well as traveling around the country treating those who make not have trusted estheticians in their area.
What is your favorite skincare ingredient for melanin-rich skin?
N: My #1 favorite ingredient for melanin skin is lactic acid. As a humectant and exfoliant, it interacts with deep skintones gently, targeting the dehydration, oiliness, and hyperpigmentation many people of color struggle with. I love being able to work with multi-function ingredients that reduce the risk of irritation.
What is your favorite treatment for melanin skin concerns?
N: The Natural Glow Brightening Facial that I offer in my skincare studio in Beverly Hills is my favorite service for melanin skin. The services incorporates several different levels of exfoliants, AHAs & fruit enzymes with brighteners like licorice root, azelaic acid & resveratrol to gently prevent hyperpigmentation. Clients always leave with a visible glow! And even better, the ingredients work cumulatively over time to deliver long lasting results.
